NOV 2011 — A UBC researcher says the public process involved with the approval of rezoning and redevelopment of property at Granville Street and West 70th Avenue was flawed. White wrote the report, entitled "Searching for Ecological Democracy: A Case Study of the Marpole Safeway Rezoning Process," for her masters of arts degree in the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning. NOV 2011 — The ninth annual Great Marpole Trick-or-Treat proved very popular again this year with merchants and children alike. The desire for treats and the dry weather made for a street full of costumed children going door-to-door to participating merchants displaying the now well-known orange pumpkin decal. Thanks to those merchants who posted the pumpkin decal and participated in this very popular community event.

OCT 2011 — The Dunbar Haunted House has moved to a bigger location this year, to accommodate the exponential growth and large traffic flows of the past few years. The new address is 8934 Shaughnessy Street near the Marine Drive station of the Canada Line. They are open from October 14th to October 31st, evenings from 7 pm to 10 pm Sundays – Thursdays, until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and during the day Saturday & Sunday 11 am – 7pm. Live actors spook nightly from 7 pm. This year's Haunt "Barbaric British Columbia" will combine elements and characters from traditional horror genres with iconic aspects of B.C. culture and industry. SEP 2011 — On Thursday, September 15, Historic Joy Kogawa House will welcome Toronto author Susan Crean as our 2011 writer-in-residence. Crean will lead writing workshops and engage in a series of conversations during her residency with writers who use their work as a means of social change. Writers in this series include poet Evelyn Lau, journalist Eric Enno Tamm, playwright Tara Beagan, essayist Betsy Warland, writer Wayde Compton, and artist Shirley Bear. New Pedestrian Crosswalk for 66th @ Granville
SEP 2011 — After nearly eight years of lobbying, petitions and meetings, the Marpole BIA is very pleased to note the construction of the city of Vancouver's newest pedestrian crosswalk, at 66th Avenue and Granville St. "We are very happy that the City is installing the new crosswalk. It will enhance pedestrian safety, and make it easier for customers to access our businesses on both sides of Granville Street," says MBA President Michael Tee. The Marpole BIA thanks the City of Vancouver for installing the crosswalk, which should be operational in the coming months.

New Crosswalk Coming at 66th & Granville
AUG 2011 — Work is set to begin on the long-awaited new pedestrian-activated crosswalk at 66th Avenue and Granville Street. This crosswalk will enable pedestrians to cross Granville St. with greater ease and safety, and allow for more east-west flow from both sides of the commercial district.
JUL 2011 — The 11th Annual Marpole Summerfest and Show & Shine was held Saturday, July 9th, from 11 AM to 4 PM along Granville Street in Marpole. It's a family-friendly, community celebration for residents and businesses.

The event is sponsored by a City of Vancouver program called Keep Vancouver Spectacular which will provide all tools and materials needed as well as pickup of the waste collected.
