Arbutus Lands Visioning Process

FEBRUARY 2006 -- We're following up to provide more information about the Arbutus Lands Visioning Process beginning in February. The Visioning Process is sponsored by Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), and led by a panel of local experts in areas critical to sustainable planning: urban planning, transportation, arts and culture, the environment, heritage and sustainability itself. The Visioning Process will consider all sustainable options for future use of the land, starting with a blank slate.

The Visioning Process is designed to get as much input as possible from the community. You and your neighbours are invited to share your ideas on how to best use the former rail lands. To begin, one-day Workshops led by Stanley King of the Co-Design Group will take place in four neighbourhoods along the Lands. Each Co-Design Workshop will have facilitators and artists on hand to capture your ideas for a sustainable future for the Arbutus Lands. Drawings of your ideas will form the foundation for a Community Vision.

After the Co-Design Workshops, Open Houses will be held so you can review and provide feedback on the ideas generated in the Workshops. Website access will provide a way to share your views, as well. Additionally, an Info Centre will be opened in Kerrisdale in mid-February as another venue for feedback and information.

Following the Workshops and Open Houses, the Arbutus Lands Advisory Panel will then review the community’s contributions and make comments and suggestions. A Draft Vision will then be produced and reviewed in the fall. Ideas will be incorporated into a Final Vision that will be shared with the community and the City of Vancouver. More details on the Visioning Process will be available at arbutuslands.com in early January 2006.
